The Northwest European Para Ice Hockey League (NEPIHL) is an international league which was formed to help grow and develop para ice hockey in the north of Europe and beyond.

The NEPIHL was founded in 2021 by the Amsterdam Tigers (Netherlands), Dordrecht Polar Bears (Netherlands), Antwerp Phantoms (Belgium), Rouen Dragons (France) and Sheffield Steelkings (Great Britain).

It followed the Sheffield Steelkings inviting all of the above teams to take part in their Kings Cup Competition in 2020, but due to difficulties in making the event, only Rouen made it to Sheffield to compete against the two Steelkings teams and the Cardiff Huskies.
After the tournament was over, a meeting was arranged between Jurrian Raa of the Amsterdam Tigers and Jake Oakley of the Sheffield Steelkings.
The discussion focused on whether a competition in Europe could be arranged, to make it easier for the European teams to travel to. This is when the Northwest Europe Para Ice Hockey League was born.
In 2022 the first competition was held in Antwerp, Belgium, and saw the Sheffield Steelkings crowned champions.
The goal of the Northwest Europe Para Ice Hockey League is to grow and develop the game of para ice hockey. All the teams want to see more clubs and more players playing the sport we love.

Following the success of the first competition, a new team was formed in the Netherlands under the Nijmegen Devils banner. They would join the other Dutch teams for the 2023 tournament.
In 2025, the competition finally came home when Sheffield hosted the tournament for the very first time. We hope it will not be the last time we ‘Defend The Kingdom’ against the NEPIHL teams.
The NEPIHL Committee now meet on a regular basis to share ideas and plan future competitions. Watch this space for any upcoming news!
